The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts.

There are typically many different components that come together to ultimately create a finished work of art. While each individual element can be viewed independently from the others, the journey of their transformation into a completed piece is really the focus of my time creating. I cannot help but ruminate on how these elements are forever changed when they are combined, and what this says about the world around us.

I feel most fulfilled during the process of my art making. The intent and purpose of my work is not completion, but exploration. The unfolding of a work of art enthralls me, the twists and turns a piece takes on the road to it’s conclusion fuel my curiosity and my desire to create.

The blending of colors, layering of leaves, beading of canvas, and placement of petals and gold all provide me with opportunities to focus, reflect, and bring together things that once were separate. I create to clarify my thoughts and rest my mind, exploring the interactions of different media aid me in doing so. I view my works as physical manifestations of my musings.

I cannot help but make connections in my own mind between the way different media come together and the way that we as humans experience our surroundings. I believe that media coming together on a canvas or paper can be thought of much like life's experiences. Though they can be viewed separately, they intermingle, mesh, and relate to each other in such a way that they can no longer be accurately described merely by their separate attributes, much how a person cannot be defined soley by their individual experiences and their other unique aspects. The synergy is undeniable.

My art reminds me to look deeper, think deeper, and respect the complexity of the human experience.
