About the artist

My name is Sarah Barber and I am a native of Colorado Springs, Colorado. I moved up to Longmont, Colorado in late 2018 and am currently working in Boulder. I obtained a Sociology degree from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs in 2015. Through out my undergraduate degree and since graduation I have worked in the hospitality and guest services industry. I am very interested in hotels and the opportunity they provide for all types of human interaction.

I’ve had a lot of fun gaining personal and professional experience at a variety of different properties. I always make a point to connect with other artists wherever I am employed, I’ve even had the opportunity to curate an “employee art show”. Employees from a host of different properties in my area came to display their art for family, friends, and the public. It was a huge success and I cannot wait to spread my love of all kinds of art with my future employers via events like these. There is always an opportunity to connect over creativity!

My art is very personal, I use my time creating as a form of meditation. My works are very much about the process, the finished product is almost secondary in some cases to the personal and artistic exploration that takes place in the act of mark making.

Over the years I’ve noticed a pattern in myself, gravitating towards creating and making during times of hardship as a way to cope. In my early teens I identified the link between my emotional distress and frankly what are I feel my most successful artistic endeavors. I place a lot of value in the therapeutic aspects of creative behaviors and am pursuing a masters degree in Transpersonal Art Therapy.

Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-grumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a loony-goony dance
'Cross the kitchen floor,
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.
